PDO Thread Lift

PDO thread lift is an in-office procedure that is done with local anesthetic. It uses dissolvable threads to lift and tighten. PDO has been used since the 1980’s and triggers your body to produce more collagen from fibroblasts. Collagen loss is what causes aging skin

PDO thread lifts are much safer and have a lower complication rate when compared to a facelift surgery. However, results are not as dramatic. In addition, you may not be a good candidate for PDO threads if you have very thin skin. Often the threads are visible in these patients. Other uncommon complications with PDO threads are minor bruising, infection, hematoma, dimpling, inflammation, snapping of threads, or salivary gland injury.

Because results with PDO thread lift are not as drastic as facelift surgery, it is often recommended to pair it with other modalities of treatment such as dermal fillers and laser resurfacing.

PDO thread lifts show immediate results. However, results are less noticeable after 6 months and often disappear after 12 months. However, depending on the health of your skin, you may see results for much longer than 12 months.

The procedure itself is about 45 minutes. Avoid anything that will thin the blood prior to the procedure. This includes alcohol, nicotine, Advil or ibuprofen, aspirin, omega-3 or fish oil, and green tea.

After the procedure there is minimal recovery. You may return to normal daily activities immediately. Mild swelling and bruising may be seen for 24-48 hours. It is best to avoid activities such as rubbing your face, drinking through a straw, pursing your lips, smoking, etc to avoid dislodging the threads the week after your procedure. Intense exercise, sleeping on your side, and saunas are to be avoided as well.
