Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin to make skin smoother, reduce scarring, smooth out fine lines, reduce or eliminate pigmentations such as melasma, and remove blemishes. Peels can be combined with other procedures, such as laser resurfacing or neurotoxin for additional improvement to the skin.
Chemical peels are performed in our office without the need for anesthesia. The products used will create a slight stinging sensation that dissipates quickly.
Chemical Peel Procedure
During a chemical peel, the skin is cleansed and the solution is applied, which may cause a brief stinging sensation. Depending on the level peel that is best for your skin concerns, you may have petroleum jelly applied afterwards. Each patient will receive specific aftercare instructions tailored to the peel that was performed.
Side Effects of Chemical Peels
A chemical peel can result in tingling, reddened skin, a crust or scab, or swelling. After a chemical peel it is essential that the skin be protected from the sun and moisturized. Picking and peeling can result in scarring or infection.
